VAUNT Smart Glasses

Intel VAUNT Smart Glasses

Project Description

Vaunt (Codename: Superlite) is an ultra lightweight, weighing just under 50 grams, smart glasses.  Vaunt is simply a non-intrusive system for displaying a small heads-up style display in your peripheral vision that provides its wearers with contextual and relevant information depending on their calendar and location.

01. / Design Challenges

The design challenges for Vaunt were the limitations we had with visual assets and layout complexities. Not only was display real estate a massive challenge, interaction input on the device was tremendously constricting due to the fact that the device can only house a magnetometer, accelerometer and a single power button in its body.

02. / Getting Familiar

Because smart glasses may be a new experience for most, we really want to emphasize and highlight Vaunt's key features while the wearer sets up their device.

Setting up Vaunt - Vaunt's My Companion App acts as the home base for the device. Here we can leverage the app's experience to introduce Vaunt to its wearer.

03. / Super Powers

How can we design an experience that goes beyond the display, crosses into the physical world and be contextual to the wearer's surrounding?

Leveraging the magnetometer, we designed an Explore mode feature around it. Allowing our wearer to explore points of interest, such as bars, restaurants and landmarks around them.

Defining interaction behaviours on Vaunt. Due to the constraints around the hardware, we had to carefully select the most valuable information to present to the wearer, and at the same time, careful not to overload the display with content (Glance-able information).

Explore and Turn-By-Turn Navigation Mode. When designing this feature we asked ourselves what contextual information we should bring to the forefront of the wearer to create that 'Wow factor'. With Explore mode, the 'Super power' we are providing to the wearer is that we are getting relevant information on their surrounds (Points of interest) while looking around their environment.

Vaunt Navigation Mobile App supports the Vaunt glasses with Point of Interest information contextual to the wearer.
